What is Gating of Enquiries?
What is the objective of Gating of Enquiries?
- As part of our commitment to deliver better value and a better experience to you, we are launching the Gating of Anonymous Enquiries for property seekers using the PropertyGuru and iProperty Malaysia platforms. The objective is to deliver better quality leads to you by filtering out low intent property seeker leads and delivering to you high intent leads thus allowing you to more efficiently focus your time and efforts to nurture leads with higher intent.
- As a start, this change will be asking anonymous new property seekers using the platform to identify himself/herself by signing up or signing in as a one-time activity upon placing an enquiry. Identified enquirers are enquirers that are willing to and have signed in/ signed up. These enquirers are expected to have higher intent to rent/buy a property (more quality leads) in comparison to enquirers that are not willing to be identified. This is a follow-up from our successful experiments that ran in Malaysia in March (PropertyGuru), June (PropertyGuru) & October (PropertyGuru & iProperty) 2022.
What are the impacts toward property seekers?
- Anonymous users that visit iProperty Malaysia will be affected when they submit an enquiry (Phone Reveal, WhatsApp, Email, etc.). They will be prompted to sign up or sign in. Once the user has signed up or signed in, they will not see gating ever again until they decide to log out or refresh the cookies on their browser.
- Logged in users will not be affected as they have already been identified, thus they will not see the Gating prompt. Only if user has logged out or cleared their browser cookies, they will be treated like anonymous users and will have to sign in again when they decide to submit an enquiry on a listing.
*Anonymous = users who did not login.
What is the summary of changes that have been introduced?
- As an anonymous new user, when a property seeker tries to place an enquiry from Search Result Page and Listing Details pages, they would be asked to identify themselves either by signing in with their social account or by entering their email address to proceed with an enquiry on iProperty Malaysia.
- By enquiries, we are referring to all enquiry types on listings inclusive of the following:
- WhatsApp (Desktop, mobile web & app)
- Call (mobile web & app)
- SMS (mobile web & app)
- Enquiry Form (Desktop, mobile web & app)
- View Phone Number (Desktop, mobile web & app)
- Upon registering their email address, users would be sent a verification code to the registered email address in which they will have to key in to authenticate themselves. The system will also check if user does or doesn’t have an existing account with us. If the user has an existing account, they will be prompted to sign in instead.
- Upon successful verification, users will be automatically routed back to their enquiry flow.
For users who do not have an account will an account be created for them upon entering correct verification code?
Yes, an account will be created for them, and they will be logged in automatically.
Will users be going through the gating process repeatedly every time when they submit an enquiry?
- After they complete the sign up or sign in process, they will not be prompted again on enquiry submission if they are accessing via same device and browser.
- The users will see the prompt to sign in or sign up pop-up if they are using a different device/browser which is not in a logged in status or if they have cleared their browser cookies.
For property seekers who sign up or login via this flow how will they manage to login again in case they are logged out or access via different device? Will our normal login flow for consumers be updated to accommodate OTP login?
- They would have to login via OTP where the OTP code will be sent to their email.
